You can borrow from our Library if your home library is a member of the Cooperative Action by Victorian Academic Libraries (CAVAL) or the University Libraries of Australia and New Zealand (ULANZ) reciprocal borrowing schemes.

Before visiting the campus, you must register as an external borrower. Select your home institution from the list below and fill out the registration form. CAVAL/ULANZ membership terms and conditions apply. Please allow two full business days for your registration to be processed. We will email you when your card is ready for collection.

To obtain a borrower card, visit any of our Library sites and present your valid photo ID (e.g. driver's license, passport) to the Concierge. The card will be issued on the spot.
Graduated before 2005? To avoid delays, confirm with the RMIT Alumni office whether you have an RMIT account before visiting the Library.
You can search a subset of Library databases, e-journals, and e-books. You can also log in to your LibrarySearch account to check your loans and place holds.
Access to RMIT Wi-Fi and printing services is not included in your membership.
Makerspace is only available to the current RMIT students and staff.

As an OUA student enrolled in units offered by RMIT University, you can order your student card online using MyRMIT. You will find instructions on the RMIT student card page, including steps you can take if you have problems logging in to MyRMIT.
Once you get your student card, you can also join the CAVAL reciprocal borrowing scheme. Apply for a CAVAL card at the Library’s service desk.
With the CAVAL card, you can borrow items from other Victorian universities and TAFE/VE libraries that participate in the scheme.
You should receive a letter with your RMIT student number and password – this is your RMIT login. Use it to access computers in the Library and Library e-resources (both on-campus and off-campus).
You can still join the Library as a fee-paying borrower. You will find the relevant information under the 'Community and U3A students' heading on this page.
RMIT campuses are open to the public. Please check the Library opening hours before visiting.
Community visitors can borrow RMIT items either through the interlibrary loan service via their home or local library, or by applying for a community borrower card with RMIT and paying a fee.

Community members, including Open University Australia (OUA) students not enrolled through RMIT University can join the Library as fee-paying borrowers.
Before visiting the Library, you must register as a community borrower.

Once we receive your registration request, we will contact you with details of how to make the payment. We accept online payments. Evidence of identity, such as a driver’s licence, will be required to collect your card on site after payment is confirmed.
We will issue you with a borrowing card once we receive your payment.
University of Third Age (U3A) students can register for free.
