Accessing Library resources and study support

While you are on campus, our friendly Library Concierge can help you to:

  • Get items from the shelves
  • Book study rooms 
  • Photocopy

The Library has dedicated support for students with disability, mental health condition, and who are neurodiverse:

We can :

  • Help with your assessments including research, writing, referencing, math, science and general study techniques
  • Advise about accessing library resources
  • Arrange a library tour
  • Send study materials to your email address or by post.

We can convert inaccessible documents into accessible versions for you. If there are any PDFs or printed copies that need converting, talk to your lecturer or contact the Equitable Learning Services as soon as possible to arrange this.

Library facilities

Sensory-friendly study spaces

Swanston Library has two rooms that are designed to reduce sensory overload, and provide a safe and quiet environment for study and self-regulation.

PC desk with partition and a stand up desk in Room 103.

Room is closed for maintenance. (8 August until further notice.)

Room 103 (small) has

  • 6 computers with partitions for quiet study
  • assistive technology PC
  • height-adjustable desk.
A comfortable furniture in Room 104.

Room 104 (large) has

  • adjustable lighting and privacy film on the windows
  • couches, coffee tables, foot stools, chairs
  • plants
  • lockers
  • access to a balcony via a push-button.

Conditions of use

We understand feeling overwhelmed isn’t something you plan for, so these rooms can be accessed during Library opening hours, no booking required.

  • Please be mindful that this is a shared space that can be used by multiple students at any given time.
  • Food may be consumed in the spaces but please be mindful of other users
  • For your safety, the room is not lockable. Security and/or staff may check on the room while it is in use.
  • Feel free to move furniture or other items in the room to suit your needs.
  • If you require stimming toys or other aids to help you self-regulate, please bring your own. 

Location

The Swanston Library's sensory-friendly study rooms are located in Building 12 on Level 5, across from the Study Support Hub. Enter the Library in Building 10 level 5, go left then follow the walkway through to Building 12.
