In the first year, you will be introduced to video, audio and internet media production. In the second year, you will explore complex cross-media projects and develop the sophisticated strategic and leadership skills required to be at the forefront of this evolving industry.

Be captivated by a selection of projects from graduating students in our Master of Media program showcase. The selection of work spans documentary, music video, short film, animation, experimental video and interactive online mediums, including projects created for Federation Square's digital facade through the programs industry partnership with the Melbourne Arts Precinct.
In this degree, you will develop your creative portfolio through an applied research approach to your coursework and assessment.
You will build on your existing collaborative audiovisual production skills and experience, and will explore contemporary media practices through the creation of innovative digital storytelling projects.
Students learn from industry mentors and guests, undertake internships with industry leaders, and develop their craft and expertise through applied research projects that position them as emerging leaders in the field themselves.
This degree operates in ’blended’ mode to allow for greater flexibility. This consists of a mix of face-to-face lectures and tutorials combined with e-learning. You will have access to state-of-the-art RMIT equipment and facilities in a purpose-designed building in the heart of vibrant Melbourne.
Assessments are written and project-based, and include work undertaken individually and in groups. Assessment is undertaken on a continual basis and will include scripts, reports, blogs, presentations, videos, podcasts, websites, research projects, and other practical assignments.
Internships form part of the learning experience and will help you develop connections to the industry while you study. There are no end-of-year examinations.

The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.
Almost every industry has a need for media production skills, whether in social media, video/audio documentary or fiction, or at the intersection of all three.
What distinguishes professional projects from amateur ones is the quality of the production.
This degree will give you the skills to ensure your media productions have that professional edge.
Media strategists, producers and directors from industry partners such as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) TV and Radio, Google Arts & Culture, Renegade Films and 3RRR sit on the industry advisory committee and provide valuable advice and guidance to shape course content.
RMIT staff have strong industry links and current professional experience in media production. We engage external experts to ensure that students are exposed to current developments in media and communication.
You will be encouraged to work on industry projects that extend beyond the boundaries of the university. Recent industry collaborators include Fed Square, Melbourne WebFest, VICE Media, Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Winda Mara Aboriginal Corporation, ANZ Bank, and Metro Tunnel.

Due to the flexible delivery of this degree, students are able to complete projects online with industry partners as well as take part in global production projects through our international partnerships.
You’ll have the opportunity to participate in international study tours and internships, working with overseas partners. Recent collaborators have included companies and NGOs in Barcelona, Cambodia, Delhi, Japan, Kenya, Mumbai, New York, the Philippines, Sweden, and Vietnam.

The Graduate Diploma in Media is available as an exit award of this degree. Any advanced standing you receive for the masters program is not transferrable to an exit award. If you wish to exit early with the Graduate Diploma, you must have completed all courses specified in the relevant program structure.

You may be eligible to apply to defer payment of the Student services and amenities fee (SSAF) through the SA-HELP loan scheme. If you use SA-HELP, the amount will be added to your accumulated HELP debt.
If your FEE-HELP and/or SA-HELP loan application is successful, the Australian Government will pay RMIT, on your behalf, up to 100% of your fees. This amount will become part of your accumulated HELP debt.
You only start repaying your accumulated HELP debt to the Australian Government once you earn above the minimum income threshold for repayment, which is set each year by the Australian Government (this also applies if you are still studying). The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will calculate your compulsory repayment for the year and include this on your income tax notice.
