Study Abroad

Join us in Melbourne for one or two semesters on a Study Abroad program. You will be immersed in the RMIT experience by studying alongside full time degree students from across the world. 

The subjects that you study at RMIT can be credited towards your degree if they have been approved by your home institution. Your university may also have an exchange agreement with RMIT

Study options

Design your own program

You can design your own Study Abroad program by selecting courses from across any of RMIT University’s disciplines, as long as you have the necessary prerequisites.

RMIT offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The majority of students on undergraduate degrees choose courses from our undergraduate programs and the same with postgraduate students. However it may be possible in some circumstances for undergraduate students to choose some postgraduate courses.

There are also courses that are designed uniquely for Study Abroad students which give students an insight into Australian culture and society.

GAP Year

If you have just finished high school and would like a taste of what it is like to study in Australia, but don’t know what career path you want to take, you can join us for a one or two semester GAP year at RMIT. 

Courses are only available in:

  • accounting
  • business IT and logistics
  • economics, finance and marketing
  • management
  • engineering
  • global, urban and social studies
  • health and biomedical sciences
  • property
  • construction and project management
  • science.

Costs

Semester Fee

For 2024 the fee for international students taking part in the Study Abroad program at RMIT is AU$11,040 per semester.

The fees do not include international and domestic travel, accommodation and meals, textbooks, living costs, or the Overseas Student Health Cover charges.

There are no application fees for Study Abroad students

The tuition fee for the first semester and, where applicable, the Overseas Student Health Cover is payable on acceptance of an offer of a place in the Study abroad program.

The fee remains the same regardless of whether you enrol in 36 credit points (3 courses) or 48 credit points (4 courses) for the semester.

 

OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover)

As an International Student, it is a condition of your student visa that you have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of your stay in Australia.

 

Cost of living

Cost of living can vary according to the type of accommodation, the number of people living in the accommodation and the location.

Student Exchange

Exchange students nominated by their home institution can study for one or two semesters at RMIT University under a reciprocal student exchange agreement.

Review the course guide for courses you are interested in to ensure you meet any prerequisites. You must receive approval from your home institution before selecting your courses at RMIT.

Course Search details

Pay careful attention to the advice provided in the “Comments” column in the search tool.

Please note that the following type of courses are strictly not open to exchange and study abroad students (but not limited to):

  1. Single courses that are worth 36 or 48 credit points
  2. Any research type courses including thesis course
  3. Courses that form part of an honours one year degree or at research academic level (Master by Research or PhD)

All courses are subject to availability and can change without notice. RMIT reserves the right to refuse entrance to any course.

'Recommended' courses have a faster and easier approval process.

'Restricted' courses require academic assessment and approval from the owning RMIT Academic School and can take additional time for approval.

'Vocational Education Course' notes a course is offered by a Vocational Education School and may have an earlier start date.

'GAP Year course' indicates courses suitable for students who have just finished senior secondary school and have not yet started undergraduate studies.

Note: The School of Science consists mainly of Applied Sciences, Computer Science, IT, Mathematics.
