RMIT proactively engages in partnerships with industry, government, non-government organisations and communities to drive a positive, collective sustainability impact.

Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)

RMIT was a founding member of the GBCA and continues to partner with the organisation to support and drive the adoption of green building practices in the property industry. RMIT students and staff can become members of the GBCA for free to access a range of resources and tools.

Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS)

RMIT is a member of ACTS, a network which aspires to inspire, promote and support change towards best practice sustainability within the operations, curriculum and research of the Australasian tertiary education sector. RMIT students and staff can become members of the ACTS for free to access a range of webinars, programs, resources and tools. RMIT has won numerous ACTS Green Gown Awards, the awards are the first and only award scheme dedicated to recognising excellence in sustainability within the tertiary education sector in Australasia.

Sustainable Living Festival (SLF)

RMIT has had a long term partnership with the SLF since 2011. The festival brings the vital message of sustainability to the forefront of our nation’s consciousness. Whilst providing a platform for leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in this space to activate new audiences and promote their message. The festival is an opportunity for RMIT to support the local community and to showcase our research expertise and student work around sustainability, climate change and innovation.

The City of Melbourne

RMIT collaborates with the City of Melbourne wherever possible to drive sustainability outcomes as a key landholder. For example, RMIT participated in the City of Melbourne's 1200 Buildings Program which aimed to reduce energy, water and carbon emissions through the retrofit of commercial buildings. RMIT also partnered with the City of Melbourne on both Melbourne Renewable Energy Projects (MREP).

Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA)

The Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) is a country level, business-led network of the UN Global Compact which brings together signatories of Australia’s leading companies, non-profits and universities. In 2015 RMIT became a member of the Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) which assists RMIT in sector-based collaboration, leadership advocacy and global connections on sustainability. Since 2018, GCNA staff have been provided with working spaces on RMIT’s City campus strengthening collaboration with the University.

Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)

The Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Network of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) brings together SDSN members in the region to develop and promote solutions, policies and public education for sustainable development. RMIT collaborates with the SDSN to provide practical solutions for sustainable development and to share best practice teaching and research in sustainability and the SDGs.
