The RMIT Artothek Collection is the first dedicated university art lending library in Australia. Based on a membership model, your donation will help us develop and preserve this unique resource for the benefit of RMIT Students.
In 2020, German based academic and RMIT Adjunct Professor of Fine Art, Dr. Christoph Dahlhausen, approached RMIT Culture with the idea of donating approximately 250 works on paper to RMIT for the expressed purpose of creating an art lending library for RMIT students, known as an Artothek. Artotheks have existed in Germany since the late 1960s, with approximately 115 artotheks currently operating in Germany.
RMIT is the perfect host for this initiative, especially given the university’s strong reputation for art and design and its longstanding commitment to student wellbeing. Our vision is to provide RMIT students with the unique opportunity to enjoy art in their homes as part of their RMIT experience.

Experiencing art is close to reading. Having an artwork at home opens up the possibility to 'read' slow and more sustainable. I am deeply honored that the RMIT has accepted my donation of a part of my collection of works on paper to start the very first Artothek in Australia. My hope is that the RMIT Artothek will continue to grow, leading the way while bringing joy and enriching experiences to all.

If an online donation is made in error, or a donor changes their mind, written notice must be submitted via email or post within 30 days of the date the donation. A refund form will be released and the donor will be required to fill this in with their details and a signature. All decisions on refunds are at the discretion of RMIT and the University reserves the right to pass any refund transaction charges onto the donor. Refunds will be returned within 72 hours of written notice to the original EFTPOS or credit card used for payment. Once a refund is processed, the original receipt issued is null and void.
