Melbourne city campus

Melbourne City campus is located in the cosmopolitan heart of one of the world’s most liveable cities and is surrounded by public transport, restaurants, cafes, theatres, galleries and parks.

Our City campus has 45,000 students studying in across all major interest areas. The campus has been an integral part of Melbourne's character for more than one hundred years.

Unlike other university campuses, it isn’t closed off, or surrounded by walls - City campus life is Melbourne city life.

The campus is accessible by public transport and provides key features such as libraries, study spaces, Wi-Fi, childcare and a bustling fitness centre.

RMIT’s facilities and buildings are constantly evolving and expanding to meet the demands of contemporary university life. Across the campus you’ll find new award-winning buildings like the Swanston Academic Building and the Design Hub, and outdoor recreational spaces including the Alumni Courtyard and the A’Beckett Urban Square.

There are plenty of cheap and healthy food and drink outlets offering breakfast, lunch, coffee, snacks and drinks. You’ll also be in walking distance to hundreds of local restaurants and cafes, Melbourne Central and QV food courts and the famous Queen Victoria Market.

RMIT A'Beckett Urban Square is officially open. RMIT A'Beckett Urban Square.

Food and drinks

On-campus you'll find a number of food retailers, microwaves and free drinking water stations.

The City campus is also in easy walking distance to a large number of cafes and restaurants and major food courts in QV, Melbourne Central, Emporium and the Queen Victoria Market.

Transport

Melbourne is serviced by a well-developed network of trams, buses, trains and airports.

The closest train station to most City campus buildings is Melbourne Central Station on the City Loop.

From Flinders Street Station, you can join a connecting City Loop train service or any tram travelling up Swanston Street (see below).

Most north-south Yarra Trams run along Swanston Street (routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72). For Elizabeth Street services (routes 19, 57, 59), get off at Melbourne Central and walk one block to Swanston Street.

If you’re travelling east-west along Flinders Street (routes 48, 70 and 75), Collins Street (routes 109 and 12) or Bourke Street (routes 86 and 96) alight at Swanston Street for connecting trams.

Many bus lines offer services connecting to train and tram services listed above. Check Public Transport Victoria for details of connecting services in your area.

Bus connections operate from Melbourne International Airport and Avalon Airport (Geelong) direct to Southern Cross Station on Spencer Street.
