Submitted your application and wondering what's next? Learn about how you can track your application and the possible application outcomes
If you have not already applied through VTAC you may be eligible to apply directly to RMIT.
What you need to know before you apply
Applying to RMIT is easy. This information will help you complete your direct application.
If you have not already applied through VTAC you may be eligible to apply directly to RMIT. You can check whether your program accepts direct applications by reading the 'apply' information in the program description.
You can apply direct to RMIT as a local student if you are:
- a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, or
- a New Zealand citizen, or
- a person seeking asylum who holds either a: Temporary Protection Visa (TPV), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) or Bridging Visa E or Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) visa or Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa, or
- a non-resident of Australia wishing to apply for an RMIT Online program.
If you hold international citizenship, you must apply as an international applicant. Please contact us for more information.

You may save your application at any time and return to it later.
The application system will prompt you for the following information at each stage of the process.
- Stage 1 - Complete your personal details.
- Stage 2 - Choose your program (you can select up to five programs).
- Stage 3 - Enter details of your education.
- Stage 4 - Enter details of your work experience.
- Stage 5 - Upload any required supporting documentation.
- Stage 6 - Apply for RMIT Access scheme (if applicable).
The documents you are required to submit will depend on the information you provide in your application. As you complete your application you will be notified of any supporting documents we require. After you submit your application, we may request additional supporting documentation (some may need to be certified) from you by email. You can also track any request and upload supporting documentation via My dashboard.
Supporting documentation may include:
- your academic transcript - for programs or courses you tell us you have attempted or completed
- proof of completion for any programs or courses you tell us you have completed
- proof of relevant work experience if entered as part of your application
You may also choose to upload:
- letters of support from your current or previous employer
- a statement written by you that demonstrates your motivation and commitment to study, your knowledge of the program, and any relevant work experience
- assessment of an overseas qualification
- proof of change of name (if relevant), e.g. marriage certificate, deed poll.
Some programs require the completion of a selection task. If you are required to complete a selection task, you will be notified after your application has been submitted.
You can upload documents or provide a link at any time until a final decision has been made on your application.

Applications can be submitted without all of the supporting documents, however, they cannot be assessed without all of the required documentation.
If you submit your application without all of the required documentation, be sure to come back and upload them as soon as possible to ensure your application can be assessed and processed promptly.
Applications will be accepted for each program until all places are filled, so ensure you apply as early as possible for your application to be considered. Late applications may result in a delayed class commencement.
Some programs have timely close dates that you will need to submit your application by and are listed in Direct Application dates.
RMIT supports a comprehensive scholarship program which addresses some of the financial, educational and circumstantial disadvantages our students can face through their studies. The application process for a scholarship is separate to your program application.
Most coursework scholarships open for application in the semester before they are awarded and paid.
Scholarships awarded for Semester 1 generally open between August and November of the previous year.

If you have previously completed studies in a similar program or worked in the industry, you can apply for credit/recognition of prior learning.
