Course Description
In this course you will critique contemporary concepts and approaches in human resource management relevant to the justice sector. This will involve critical analysis of justice management models used in the justice sector both nationally and internationally and issues relating to organisational culture and change. You will develop an appreciation of the challenges faced by justice managers in effectively leading staff in hierarchical organisations, which are common in the justice sector. You will consider command and span of control and compliance with laws associated with human resource management and leadership.. You will also learn about the development of strategies to support staff welfare and resilience in coping with traumatic events.

In course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Use a range of communication, conflict management and teamwork skills to work productively with a diverse range of people in justice environments
- Use appropriate ethical ideas and reflective practice skills in addressing situations and problems in justice
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically appraise and apply relevant theories, approaches and laws associated with justice sector human resource management to gain a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the role of managers in the justice sector.
- Reflect on the impact of human resource management and leadership practices in the justice sector
- Compare and contrast key national and international management theories and practices and identify and evaluate the approach best suited to various situations
- Analyse and describe the ways in which justice sector management is influenced by structure, gender, leadership, teamwork, authority and power, culture change, trauma, resilience and effectiveness

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of activities online such as recorded lectures, online activities and individual research.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Risk Management Plan, 40% CLO1 and CLO2
Assessment Task 2: Short answer paper, 20%, CLO1- CLO4
Assessment Task 3: Exam, 40%, CLO1- CLO4
