Course Description
This course will introduce you to fundamental technical skills and information used in interior design practice. You will develop skills and ideas by working with various digital and physical processes that produce objects, artefacts, media and interior environments.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Employ correct representation conventions in the design and documentation of interior spaces.
2. Develop and organise the information required for the documentation and realisation of a design project.
3. Identify and interrogate sources of technical information relevant to interior design practice
4. Identify and review appropriate sustainable materials and practices in the development of design proposals.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Recognise and explore techniques and technologies in relation to interior design.
2. Recognise and apply techniques and technologies to develop and communicate interior design ideas, intentions and outcomes.
3. Apply technical sources required for the realisation of a design project.
4. Recognise and apply appropriate technical processes to develop a designed outcome.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will participate in a range of learning activities focused around drawing, model making and material investigation.
In-class activities will include lectures, presentations, group and individual tutorials, group discussions, peer-to-peer critiques, student presentations and studio workshops and laboratories. Other activities may include excursions and site visits.
The range of learning activities will contribute to the building of a diversity of approaches to design practice in a number of different scenarios.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will identify the learning resources specific to your own interests in conjunction with your tutors. These may include readings, critical study of precedents, and further refinement of the communication, workshop, and other skills that you have acquired in the previous levels of the course. RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.
It is advisable that you have a personal computer of an appropriate specification.
