Course Description
In this course you will explore how changes in an organisation’s policies, structure and practices can be managed and communicated effectively.
The course focuses on the key principles of change; communication leadership within changing organisations; and strategies for supporting effective change. In this context, you will draw on global studies in communication management and organisational communication, including the influence and impact of connectivity with diverse audiences. You will also investigate current and emerging paradigms in change communication as it relates to communication management and stakeholders.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Critically discuss the global, technological, ethical and social implications of change management and change communication.
- Evaluate the requirements of a diverse range of stakeholders, in the context of rapid change.
- Design and develop change management communication projects to meet the needs of stakeholders.
- Predict trends and issues in change communication, including the impact of emerging technologies and connectivity on organisations.
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Critically apply strategic communication theories and principles to complex problem solving in your professional practice.
- Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating expert judgment and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice and discipline.
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on complex theories and recent developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in communication.

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of activities both face-to-face and online such as workshops, tutorials, group and class discussion, class activities and individual research.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include presentations, projects and may be done individually and in teams.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Written Paper, 40% CLO1, CLO3
Assessment Task 2: Change Communication Strategy, Plan & Presentation, 35%, CLO1, CLO2, and CLO3
Assessment Task 3: Seminar Presentation, 25% CLO2 and CLO3
