Course Description
This course introduces you to effective communication and how that takes place in business and the workforce. You will develop an understanding of different modes of communication and knowledge of communication.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for AD006 Associate Degree in Information Technology:

On completion of this course you should be able to:
1. Select and appropriately use different modes of communication.
2. Describe communication mediums and methods.
3. Apply gained knowledge in ways that are relevant to modern day business and workplace environments.
4. Gather and disseminate information in the most appropriate format for the job at hand.
5. Identify the most appropriate communication medium to different situations.
6. Develop an appreciation for how context impacts the effectiveness of instructions for different situations.
Overview of Learning Activities
The learning activities included in this course are:
• classes where syllabus material will be presented and discussed, and the subject will be illustrated with demonstrations and examples;
• completion of tutorial questions and scenarios designed to give further practice in the application of theory and procedures, and to give feedback on student progress and understanding;
• completion of written assignments requiring an integrated understanding of the subject matter; and
• private and group study, working through the course as presented in classes and learning materials, and gaining practice at solving conceptual and numerical problems.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will be able to access course information and learning materials through the myrmit (also known as Blackboard) and will be provided with copies of additional materials in class. Lists of relevant reference texts, resources in the library and freely accessible Internet sites will be provided. You will also use laboratory equipment and computer software within the School during project and assignment work.
