Course Description

 

The course provides you with detailed knowledge of property law concepts and applications including analysis of estates and interests, mortgages, easements and covenants, leases and adverse possession.

The course will also examine the procedure for conveyancing transactions for the sale and purchase of real estate in Victoria. You will investigate title, parties to transactions and the legislative requirements for the sale of land contracts and settlement procedures.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

1. Explain the notion of property and apply property law concepts relating to estates and interests, mortgages, easements and covenants, tenancies and adverse possession.
2. Analyse the Torrens system of title registration and the effect of registration upon the creation and enforcement of interests in registered land.
3. Examine the procedure in conveyancing transactions, the sale and purchase of land in Victoria and evaluate the relevance of common law principles and legislative provisions
4. Apply and integrate legal theory and practice in conveyancing in authentic work examples.
