Course Description

This course will equip you with knowledge of relevant business regulations to manage various business structure including partnership, sole traders, trust and companies. You will critically examine the basic principles of business and corporate law in the areas of agency, franchises, insurance law, bankruptcy and trusts. The course further provides you with the skills necessary to analyse the statutory and common law rules underpinning business and corporate law to apply them to contemporary business situations and companies.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Examine the key concepts and principles of Australian Corporations Law and various forms of business structures.
  2. Develop an appreciation of the legal issues involved in the relationship of principal and agent.
  3. Analyse the common law and statutory provisions relevant to Insurance Law.
  4. Analyse bankruptcy in the context of the rights and obligations of creditors and its consequences.
  5. Examine trusts in relation to the features of a trust, its creation, maintenance, and dissolution processes, and the rights and obligations of the parties involved.

In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
