Course Description
The course provides you with the skills and knowledge you will need for working in legal practice. You will develop workplace skills to initiate a client file, take instructions, communicate and negotiate with third parties, manage client files, engage in research, draft letters and legal documents, engage in legal analysis and problem solving and apply the professional code of conduct in the legal industry.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.
This course also provides you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Initiate the client file, take instructions and communicate with the client and third parties to provide required legal information.
- Identify and apply legal ethics and practice principles in the conduct of client files.
- Manage client files in accordance with legal, professional and organisational requirements.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the office and trust accounting principles applicable to working in a legal practice.
- Apply the principles of good legal writing in preparation of legal correspondence and drafting legal documents.
- Develop oral and analytical skills required in interviewing and negotiation

In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
