Course Description
The luxury segment of the fashion industry is currently providing significant challenges for today’s luxury brand marketer. Escalating raw material costs, economic meltdowns, and political instability play havoc in this global luxury fashion business. Coupled with the changing nature of the global luxury fashion client and the challenges that the internet has brought to the fashion luxury industry, new strategies are required to meet the demands of this fast paced industry.
Your learning in this course will focus on aspects of luxury fashion business marketing, to enable you to meet these challenges head on.
In this course you will explore topics such as: the importance of heritage to luxury branding, the changing nature of the global luxury consumer, the pros and cons of licensing, the importance of the couture line and celebrity endorsements, the luxury environment, luxury brand strategies and brand extension strategies, online strategies, the importance of markets such as China, counterfeiting and what the future may hold for luxury fashion brands.

On successful completion of the course you will be able to:

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to enquire, investigate, analyse and solve fashion entrepreneurship problems.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Continuous course assessment will consist of three summative assessments. The details of assessments will be given to you at the start of the course. Information about performance standards required for each assessment task are detailed in the assignment area of Canvas.
Assessment Tasks:
Assessment Task 1: Luxury Brand Presentation (Group) (20%), CLOs: 1 & 4
Assessment Task 2: Brand Strategy Essay (Individual) (35%), CLOs: 2 & 3
Assessment Task 3: Strategic Plan (Group) (45%), CLOs: 1, 3 & 4
