Course Description
This course will provide you with an understanding of the psychosocial work environment. This will include psychosocial hazards, such as stress and fatigue within organisations, their causes, and how they impact on health, safety and wellbeing of workers. These issues may individually have negative health impacts in their own right, or may exacerbate the effects of other work place hazards.
You will use techniques to assess psychosocial risk within organisation, and understand methods for practical controls to achieve a safe and healthy work environment.
Good organisational design and programs to improve worker well-being are discussed.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Determine and apply knowledge of complex occupational health and safety theory, principles and best practice to applied projects to contribute to the profession and discipline of occupational health and safety
- Professionally communicate and justify project scope, design, implementation, strategy and /or outcomes, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders across a range of industry sectors
Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify and critically discuss the characteristics and effects of psychosocial hazards and issues in the workplace
- Discuss the theories relating to the psychosocial work environment
- Examine and apply legislation, standards and codes relevant to psychosocial issues in the workplace with attention to ethical and confidentiality constraints
- Investigate and evaluate causes of psychosocial hazards using workplace data and relevant literature.
- Design workplace psychosocial intervention programs that include an evaluation strategy
Overview of Learning Activities
You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion,individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

Assessment Tasks
Task 1: Organisational case study 25% Addressing CLO 2&3
Task 2: Stress, fatigue and bullying hazard report 35% Addressing CLO1,2,4
Task 3: Poster/video and presentation 40% Addressing CLO 4,5
