Course Description
This course is within the ‘Construction Safety’ Minor of the MC282 (Master of OHS) program.
In this course, you will learn construction process, including how construction projects are initiated, procured and delivered, and how decisions and actions by different project stakeholders along the project supply-chain influence workers’ health and safety.
You will critically examine organisational structures in construction projects, procurement approaches, roles and interests of project stakeholders and their influences on workers’ health and safety.
You will explore the unique challenges and best practices in managing H&S in dynamic construction environments.

Program Learning Outcomes
This course contributes to the following MC282 (Master of OHS) program learning outcomes:
- Determine and apply knowledge of complex occupational health and safety theory, principles, and best practice to applied projects to contribute to the profession and discipline of occupational health and safety
- Apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively address the diverse needs of occupational health and safety practice, designing innovative solutions, and demonstrating independent, sound, and ethical decision making related to your professional practice and the discipline.
- Provide strategic occupational health and safety advice and utlise leadership skills and teamwork skills to initiate, plan and guide the implementation of bespoke solutions across diverse occupational health and safety contexts, contributing to the discipline and professional arena

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically appraise the roles of diverse stakeholders in the construction industry, and the interplay with health and safety
- Analyse the complexities and critical risks of construction industry, supply-chain and how decisions affect health and safety outcomes
- Apply industry codes of practice, standards, guidelines and best practices to design innovative health and safety solutions in diverse construction scenarios
- Develop and communicate plans and processes for managing health and safety.

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities.
Delivery may be face-to-face, online or a mix of both.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Analysis of influence of project context, conception, early planning and design on construction health and safety, 30%, CLO1 and CLO3
Assessment Task 2: Assess the implications of project delivery arrangements, project management decisions and project changing requirements on the health and safety of workers, 40%, CLO1, CLO2 and CLO4
Assessment Task 3: Group Presentation – analysis of health and safety during the delivery of case study construction programs, 30%, CLO1, CLO2, CLO3 and CLO4
