Course Description
This course introduces you to a range of communication techniques and processes relevant to Interior Design practice including: photography, model making, film making, drawing, mapping and diagramming, digital and physical compositing and exhibition development.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
• Communicate your ideas and designs verbally, visually and textually through a range of media to your peers as well as professional, academic and public audiences.
• Use technology as an intrinsic part of the design process and have the ability to identify relevant techniques, skills, materials and technologies for specific designs.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Discriminately apply a range of communication techniques and strategies applicable to contemporary Interior Design practice.
2. Distinguish and critically apply communication mediums and processes relevant to specific project briefs and design agendas.
3. Assess and extend communication techniques, technologies and media to creatively inform your design thinking.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will participate in a range of learning activities. In-class activities will include lectures, presentations, group and individual tutorials, group discussions, peer-to-peer critiques, student presentations and studio workshops. Other activities may include excursions to exhibitions and site visits.
All forms of practice-led inquiry are concerned with production as a way of working through design issues.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will identify the learning resources specific to your own interests in conjunction with your tutors. These may include readings, critical study of precedents, and further refinement of the communication, workshop, and other skills that you have acquired in the previous levels of the course. RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.
It is advisable that you have a personal computer of an appropriate specification.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment 1- Presentation - Process - 50% (CLO1, CLO2)
Assessment 2 - Presentation - Development and Synthesis - 50% (CLO1, CLO2, CLO3)
