Course Description

Creative Writing Craft presents an integrated suite of intensives exploring different forms of writing.  These are fiction, nonfiction, poetry and scriptwriting. This studio will be taught by specialists who will introduce you to these core forms that underpin the Creative Writing program. You will examine each form through the lens of craft, giving you a strong grounding in the essential components necessary for creative execution. This studio will provide you with a diverse craft tool-kit with which you will be able to identify your strengths, try on different voices and get some clarity about your own writing preferences.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Create, develop and produce new creative writing to reflect intention and ideas within a range of theoretical frameworks and contexts relevant to a variety of media and genres. 
  • Synthesise and apply learned skills of writing, reading, revising and researching to inform, improve and position your creative writing effectively. 
  • Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the discipline of creative writing. 
  • Apply initiative and critical and creative judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your professional practice 


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Compare, contrast and apply different approaches to a breadth of creative writing forms.
  2. Communicate core writing forms through the content of your critical and creative writing.
  3. Interrogate and respond to published forms of writing in order to plan, organise, craft and create original works of creative writing.
  4. Engage in analysis and thoughtful discussion of work developed by self and peers.
