Course Description
In this course, you will investigate and develop a proposal and then produce a body of work that integrates the theoretical frameworks and technical expertise that you have developed. This is designed as a capstone experience to enable you to synthesise and integrate knowledge, connect theory and practice as well as demonstrate holistic achievement of program learning outcomes.
You will work with your peers and industry practitioners as either collaborators or mentors. You will also explore ways of distributing your work via traditional and new-and-emerging media that is relevant to your proposed audience.
This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for BP117 Bachelor of Arts (Photography). This course includes a work integrated (WIL) learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Employ critical, cultural discourses and technical knowledge of contemporary photographic practices and emerging technologies to achieve sophisticated visual outcomes.
- Utilize advanced photographic knowledge and technical skills to contribute to visual discourses in your chosen field of photography.
- Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in the discipline in which to base your professional practice or future study.
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on your discipline in both local and international contexts.
- Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within your discipline.
- Communicate to audiences within and external to your discipline.
- Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.
- Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice or future study.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Initiate and undertake an independent study to produce a body of work.
- Produce work that demonstrates creative, investigative and technical skills to a professional standard.
- Present your work to specialist and non-specialist audiences in a professional manner.
- Critically analyse personal creative work and the work of others.

The studio will be presented through a variety of activities including workshops, experimentation, lectures, critical analysis, discussion, practice, presentation and reflection.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment Task 1: Project Pitch, 10% LO 1, 3, 4
Assessment Task 2: Progress Review, 20% LO 1, 2, 3, 4
Assessment Task 3: Final Portfolio, 50% LO 1, 2, 3, 4
Assessment Task 4: Industry Application / Proposal, 20% LO 3, 4
