Course Description
In this course you will produce diverse and complex written communications for strategic purposes. You will develop refined techniques for investigating and writing informative and persuasive copy while exploring various business writing and public relations forms. Visual communication is crucial to how a document presents and how a message is understood, so you will also learn to use design, layout and graphics to prepare documents, using industry standard software. This course will prepare you to work either in-house or freelance in communications, copywriting and social media roles.

Course learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- analyse briefs to meet clients’ needs
- discuss how business documents and public relations copy are aligned with organisational strategy
- employ diverse investigation strategies to create content
- apply advanced writing and structural techniques to various forms and shape communications for different audiences and purposes
- use diverse tools and strategies to enhance the visual communication of messages in both printed and digital forms.
Overview of Learning Activities
The learning activities included in this course are:
- studios, where you will learn through practice, exploration and reflection
- lectures and demonstrations, which provide the framework for exploring advanced professional writing
- completion of class exercises designed to clarify course content and practice relevant skills
- writing workshops to assist development of writing techniques with feedback from peers and teacher
- independent study, working through the course requirements as presented in classes, online and through learning materials.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assignment 1: Identify and Articulate a Brand as a Client, 20%, CLO 1–4
Assignment 2: On Brand Copywriting folio, 40%, CLO 1, 2 , 4, 5
Assignment 3: Pitch a Branded Communications Strategy, 40%, CLO 2–5
