Course Description
You will develop knowledge and skills related to contemporary fine art practice. You will explore and experiment with methods and techniques in two of your chosen areas of sculpture, painting, drawing or gold and silver smithing. You will select and present your preferred pieces of work for assessment.
You will also use a visual diary as a portable sketchbook for your own ideas, experiments and some studio based exercises.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate and apply specialist skills and techniques related to sculpture, painting, drawing, gold and silver smithing.
- Explore specialist materials and methods that might influence the design of your projects.
- Apply contemporary art practice through studio-based activities.
- Illustrate techniques to exhibit your work in the appropriate format.

Overview of Learning Activities
Studio based project work will build on knowledge and skills learnt through projects and practical demonstrations.
Individual tutorials to reinforce techniques will be demonstrated for object based art making and you will gain knowledge of contemporary art practices, developed through a studio environment, gallery excursions and exercises.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Progressive assessment will be conducted in a studio environment through project and written work. You will select two from the four projects you complete in the course for assessment.
Assessment will include:
- Discipline-based Project - 40% LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4
- Discipline-based Project - 40% LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4
- Visual Diary A & B - 20% LO1, LO2, LO3
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
