Course Description
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to operate and manage shipping business. You will learn about the complex organisation and structure of the shipping industry and its different corporations and institutions. Shipping as a facilitative role in global trade and supply chains along with the associated shipping processes will be examined. You will also be introduced to the developments that have shaped shipping structures in order to understand the characteristics of the challenges and opportunities.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Critically evaluate the role of shipping in international trade and global supply chains.
- Evaluate and discuss the regulatory context within which shipping business operates.
- Critically examine the identity and role of different stakeholders in shipping operations.
- Identify and discuss the different challenges involved in international shipping business and operations management.
- Examine and discuss the processes involved in international shipping operations.
- Analyse and explain the organisation and structure of international shipping business.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course is designed on the principles interactive, learner-centred co-creation of knowledge. It also aims to create a balance between in-depth academic and extensive field knowledge of shipping operations and business. The course will involve a series of weekly lectures and breakout seminars, involving group discussions and presentations. The learning process will be facilitated through various in-class and online activities including case study analysis, literature reviews and guest lectures.
