Course Description
This course provides you with foundation knowledge and skills related to the role of the paralegal and the functions of a legal practice. In this course you will utilise computer applications and specialty software technology used in management processes of the modern day legal practice. You will also examine the structure and management of legal practices and the administration of client and file information.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
CLO1: Evaluate the management structure and functions within legal practice and analyse the role of a paralegal.
CLO2: Describe and apply the ways information management technology is used to maintain client files and demonstrate other aspects of professional file management.
CLO3: Select appropriate technology to design and produce accurate legal documents that conform to specified legal standards.
CLO4: Demonstrate professional legal writing skills appropriate to a paralegal.

Overview of Learning Activities
In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.

In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.
