Course Description
In this course, you will explore specialist typographic principles and techniques for the design of books and other publications. You will examine theories and examples of best practice and of disruptive innovation in typography for readability. You will investigate advanced approaches to layout grids and page composition, responsive to a range of formats and media.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course, you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
• Employ appropriate technical skills and theoretical knowledge to solve problems associated with creative work in communication design.
• Critically reflect on your work to demonstrate autonomy, good judgement and ethical responsibility.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyse works of publication design in relation to typographic history and theory, and in relation to canonical standards of readability.
- Execute typographic solutions for publication design, with a command of established principles and contemporary design techniques.
- Critically reflect upon the ethical implications of readability in typography and publication design.
