Course Description

Art Enterprise Workshop introduces you to employment practices, career and enterprise formation opportunities, resources and arts industry networks to support you in establishing yourself as an independent artist and/or worker within the contemporary arts industry. You will develop an understanding of entrepreneurial and professional business practices that relate to the contemporary arts sector and be exposed to various ways in which you can make your own contribution to cultural and creative industries in the future. You will produce appropriate documentation that communicates your art practice to the sector and wider community and reflect on how the knowledge and skills you have gained during your studies can be applied to a diversity of professional opportunities in your future creative career.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

• Invent, design and construct a pro-active and critically reflective arts practice, to build a career in the cultural and creative industries

• Engage in continued learning and independent practice, in response to developments in technology, culture and artistic production

• Employ individual and collaborative modes of fine art practice and apply skills in teamwork, leadership and self-management

• Form, develop and implement a vision and philosophy of fine art in which to base your professional practice or future study


Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Reflect upon your creative skills and knowledge and how they might be applied, adapted or built upon within professional arts-related settings
  2. Produce and maintain an industry-standard artefact to present and communicate your creative work in an appropriate format.
  3. Investigate and evaluate a range of professional fields and opportunities within which to effectively apply your creative practice skills and knowledge.


Overview of Learning Activities

In this course you will engage with studio technologies, practice and enquiry in relationship to professional industry engagement. You will learn how to adapt your professional digital folio of your individual work for presentation within the arts industry. You will apply knowledge and skills to the planning and presentation of artwork. You will, through a range of individual and collaborative projects, produce applications for a variety of arts organizations to assist you in your professional practice.

Through workshops, demonstrations, seminars, lectures and group discussions you will engage in a range of learning activities about collective and specialized knowledge of the Arts Industry.

You will receive verbal and/or written feedback from academic staff and peers through a variety of consultations and tutorials. You will also have access to online materials, instructional tutorials, readings and interviews with artists through Canvas and the https://artschoolportal.com

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both. 


Overview of Learning Resources

RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. 

Melbourne Campus RMIT University will provide you with a range of resources and tools to engage in this course, including options for studio, technological and workshop facilities, online systems and professional equipment specific to your projects and requirements. A select range of art supplies is made available to you, as well as support from technical staff. You will also have access to a wide range of online and hardcopy resources through RMIT University library. RMIT University is in close proximity to a broad range of galleries and cultural venues that you will be expected to visit during the course of your studies. Professional workshops, labs and suppliers are also readily accessible.

Hong Kong Campus Hong Kong Art School will provide you with a range of resources and tools to engage in this course, including studio and workshop facilities, online systems and professional equipment specific to your studio area. You will have access to a selected range of supplies, as well as support from technical staff. Hong Kong Art School is in close proximity to a broad range of galleries and cultural venues that you will be expected to visit as part of your course. Professional studio specific workshops, labs and suppliers are also readily accessible.

There are services and resources available to support your learning through the University Library. The Library provides guides on academic referencing and subject specialist help as well as a range of study support services.
