Course Description
This course will introduce you to the concept of health and global health promotion practices. Models/theories of health promotion will be used to explore the relevance of health issues for the teacher and student in the classroom. It conceptualises the importance of promoting physical activity as a key strategy as this behaviour impacts on many of today’s health issues.
Individual and population approaches to health promotion will be discussed. These include using mass-media, social-marketing, sponsorship, policy and environmental influences in a range of community settings such as workplaces, schools and homes. In addition, the course will also provide you with an understanding of the processes of conceptualising and evaluating health promotion initiatives using evidence-based resources.
You will examine the complex forces influencing contemporary international health and sustainability. The health status of a range of countries will be considered with respect to the impact of global economics, politics, policies and power.
