Course Description

This course builds on the Radiation Therapy 4 and Radiation Therapy Practice 2 courses. This course is designed to enhance your core radiation therapy practice knowledge and expertise for more complex treatments. At this level you are expected to integrate and critique literature to support your views. After completing this course, you should have a broad knowledge of contemporary radiation therapy practice. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for BP321 Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiations) (aligned to the Accreditation Standards of the Medical Radiations Practice Board of Australia):

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Describe and demonstrate the principles and practices of radiation therapy patient care to a progressing level for complex cases.  
  2. Describe and explain the technological principles, physics concepts and instrumentation that supports radiation therapy practice to a professional level. 
  3. Appraise the clinical management options for a range of complex tumour sites. 
  4. Select appropriate methods of enquiry to gather and critically appraise peer reviewed literature to support a logical argument. 
  5. Critically evaluate the importance of a holistic approach to clinical management and patient care.


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectorials, tutorials, practicals, laboratories, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.
