Course Description
This course considers the relationship between Youth Work practice, research, policy and programs and it considers youth workers as policy actors. It embeds your knowledge of policy in youth work settings, considering the impact of policies and associated programs on young people and the youth sector. In this course, you will engage in analyses of Youth Policy and Youth Work programs, identifying the circumstances and considerations that have contributed to their intentions, standing in the Sector and delivery as well as their limitations and gaps in delivery.

Program Learning Outcomes
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect upon the factors, agencies and influences that shape the life-worlds, experiences and aspirations of young people to consider enabling models of practice and interventions
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyse the complex and interconnected influences of policy, research and professional stakeholders across the Youth Sector in relation to the development and establishment of Youth Policy and Youth Work Programs.
- Critically evaluate the formulation of a specific Youth Policy or Youth Work Program, with regards to purpose, service and the young people and/or sector it targets and suggest alternative approaches.
- Navigate the policy frameworks that enable and constrain Youth Work practice and Programs.
- Articulate the political, social, cultural, environmental and economic considerations that inform Youth Policy development and implementation.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course is facilitated through a series of lectures and workshops. In the lectures theoretical perspectives for understanding and examining the intersections between policy, research and programs will be developed. In the workshops, you will explore the application of these theoretical understandings to case studies from the Youth Sector and Youth Work practice.

Task 1: Youth Participation: Assessing an Initiative. 20%, 500 words, CLO1 2,4
Task 2: Youth Policy and Program Case Study. 40%, 1500 words, CLO 1,2,3,4
Task 3: Policy Proposal: Policy and Program Submission. 1500 words, 40%, CLO 1,2,3,4
