Course Description

This design course will use the body as a site to inspire and develop non-clothing three dimensional fashion artefacts and accessories. Through a series of workshops, and with an emphasis on the senses, body techniques and cultural/social/environmental contexts, you will be encouraged to interrogate traditional fashion accessory categories, archetypes, materials and techniques. Research tasks exploring the relationships between fashion artefacts, materials and real bodies in context will inspire a final design outcome which will critique and challenge how fashion sees and addresses the body.

As this is a program option course, only Course Learning Outcomes are applicable.

Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Utilise fashion artefact and accessory construction techniques to produce a variety of fashion design outcomes

CLO2: Research and explore the social and cultural context of fashion artefacts, accessories and the body within a design project.

CLO3: Identify and explore material characteristics in relation to design outcomes.

Overview of Learning Activities

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand fashion practice.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome.  They are as follows:

Assessment 1: Accessory Body Hack (observation, low-fi prototype and reflection) (15%)

Assessment 2: Technical Material Development (samples) (35%)

Assessment 3: Fashion artefact/accessory outcome (prototype, presentation, documentation in context) (50%)
