Course Description

This course will extend the skills and knowledge you have gained in the course GRAP2872 Textile Design Expressions to enable you to effectively develop and present a range of textile concepts relative to specific industry contexts.

The aim of this course is to further refine your knowledge of the terminology and industry specifications for textile-related applications. You will represent textile concepts through digital design and communication.

The aim of this course is to introduce industry conventions such as standard textile product names, descriptions, and industry specific terms and language. This is supported by other methods of communication within the textiles industry including image making through drawing, video and digital media. On successful completion of this course students will gain an understanding of contemporary textiles communication strategies and the relevant methods and techniques to enable them to effectively embody and express design intentions as a central part of textiles design.

 

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO 2 Develop conceptual, creative, technical and digital skills to deepen and synthesise knowledge of textile design applications and technologies.

PLO 3 Apply design skills and knowledge to examine, analyse and creatively respond to contemporary issues in both local and global textile production.

PLO 6 Communicate and present design concepts using a diverse range of presentation mediums and materials in industry specific and broader design concepts. 

Course Learning outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1: Examine and investigate industry standard textile communication methods.

CLO 2: Develop digital media methods for textile specification and product.

CLO 3: Employ a range of image making strategies for the communication and presentation of textile concepts.

CLO 4: Utilise appropriate industry terminology and conventions to specify design concepts.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand textile design practice.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
