Successful completion of GRAP2859 Digital Textile Design.

Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.

Course Description

This course combines traditional drawing practice and vector based digital illustration skills for textile design purposes. You will experiment with a range of hand drawing techniques and media to create original motifs / textures and learn how to translate these into vector illustrations, pattern repeats and placement prints for commercial applications. In addition you will explore a range of digital presentation and communication techniques.

Program Learning Outcomes

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO1: Demonstrate broad knowledge of textile design creation and production with depth and expertise in one or more areas of practice.

PLO2: Develop conceptual, creative, technical and digital skills to deepen and synthesise knowledge of textile design applications and technologies.

PLO3: Apply design skills and knowledge to examine, analyse and creatively respond to contemporary issues in both local and global textile production.

PLO4: Critically evaluate and reflect on theoretical and practical textile design principles and techniques to identify and solve problems in diverse contexts.

PLO6: Communicate and present design concepts using a diverse range of presentation mediums and materials in industry specific and broader design concepts.

Course Learning outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Apply vector-based design drawing software to develop textile design ideas, complex repeat patterns and coordinates.

CLO2: Demonstrate and document your reflective design process.

CLO3: Reflect on practical textile design principles and apply textile design processes and techniques in response to a design brief.

CLO4: Communicate and present textile design outcomes to a professional  industry standard.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online blended learning activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. These activities promote your ability to: explore, design, investigate, analyse and understand textile design practice.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome.  They are as follows:

Assessment 1: Creative and technical folio (50%)
CLO: 1, 2

Assessment 2: Collection (50%)
CLOs: 1, 3 & 4
