Course Description

In this course, you will undertake a project which applies your knowledge and skills in textile design. Projects are aligned to different design approaches, with an emphasis on collaboration and responsive design in relation to a brief posed by an external discipline, industry or community partner.

This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry partners and/or community is integral to your experience.

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO1: Demonstrate broad knowledge of textile design creation and production with depth and expertise in one or more areas of practice.

PLO2: Develop conceptual, creative, technical and digital skills to deepen and synthesise knowledge of textile design applications and technologies.

PLO3: Apply design skills and knowledge to examine, analyse and creatively respond to contemporary issues in both local and global textile production.

PLO7: Demonstrate an awareness of the cultural, social, ethical and environmental contexts and impacts of textile design and related industries.

PLO8: Initiate, develop and realise textile design projects effectively in collaboration with industry, community or professional partners as part of professional development.

Course Learning outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1: Apply a range of knowledge and skills to successfully respond to a brief posed by an external partner.

CLO 2: Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation to identify and solve problems in relation to a particular design brief.

CLO 3: Communicate professionally using a range of formats and strategies to diverse audiences within and external to the Textile Design discipline.

CLO 4: Collaborate with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness through reflective and responsive design practice.

CLO 5: Take initiative and apply judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice.

Overview of Learning Activities

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of learning activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Learning will occur during scheduled class time with class activities that promote your ability to explore, investigate, analyse and understand textile design practice. Further engagement with independent study and activity will be required in Learner directed hours.

A list of recommended learning resources will be provided by your lecturer, including books, journal articles and web resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.

The library also provides guides on academic referencing and assistance is available via phone, chat and email.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Your work integrated learning component will be assessed in a simulated workplace context where you will engage with, and receive feedback from industry partners.

 

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:

Assessment 1: The Pitch (30%) CLO: 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

Assessment 2: The Exposition (40%) CLO: 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

Assessment 3: Intent Dossier (30%) CLO: 4 & 5

 

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
