Course Description
In this course, you will be given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry and advance your knowledge in the business of fashion, while building upon your current skills and capabilities. You are able to focus on areas of specialisations in a fashion enterprise, which can range from business development, sustainable business practices, marketing, e-commerce, branding, fashion forecasting and analytics, retail, merchandising and planning, market entry strategies, and fashion supply chain management.
This internship experience may be conducted with a local, interstate, or international fashion/textiles business, including not-for-profit and social enterprises. Alternatively you may conduct a self-directed professional experience, establishing and running your own fashion enterprise, or in cooperation with others. This course is designed to provide you with an opportunity to integrate theory with practice.
This placement will be undertaken with the guidance of a workplace mentor and support of your academic supervisor. You will be assessed in a real workplace context, where feedback from industry is integral to your experience. The range of projects in which you will be involved in will be determined according to the project objectives of the fashion business/industry partner. You will evaluate and develop solutions, presentations and concepts for specific industry projects at a professional level.
In this course, you will also undertake learning activities/assessment to:
- Engage and connect you with industry relevant to your current studies and/or
- Support your career development.

Overview of Learning Activities
In this course, you will have the opportunity for ‘hands on’ engagement with the fashion and textiles industry. Your performance in the placement will be reviewed throughout the course against professional standards and requirements of practice.

For a placement, a specific time commitment up to 100 hours at an approved workplace, or in development of your own fashion business and in association with your mentor is required. This may be undertaken as either a regular commitment throughout the semester or negotiated as a full-time intensive experience, provided such an arrangement does not impinge on your participation in other program commitments.
