Successful completion of TCHE2658 Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education and TCHE2625 Literacy Test for Initial Teacher Education.

Course Description

This course will challenge you to think about and experience educational settings in a way that extends the knowledge, understandings and skills developed through your chosen minor sequence. You will explore common issues affecting the diversity of the sector as well as the unique features of provisions in school and non-school settings. In particular, emphasis will be given to educational inclusion and the ways that school and non-school education settings can support students to thrive.  In completing this course, you will have a sound understanding of the concepts of educational disengagement and marginalisation and identify ways to address them. 


This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) professional experience (PX) in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a school educational context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience. This PX is 15 days.

Overview of Learning Activities

This course is delivered via a work integrated learning (WIL) placement and via university-based delivery.  As this is a WIL course you will attend a school setting for 15 days after the taught component.   

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as workshops, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Teaching and learning will be a combination of face to face, online, and field experience. 

University-based classes will ensure that you understand and can adhere to the Disability Discrimination Act (1992). Taught content will ensure you have sufficient awareness to safely learn whilst on placement.
