Course Description
In this course you will explore the relationship between gender, communication, and social change in a range of local and global contexts. Utilising perspectives from gender, cultural and communication studies, you will examine how gender impacts social and cultural transformation in intersection with axes such as race, sexuality, class, and (dis)ability. You will investigate theories of participatory communication and evaluate their capacity to disrupt traditional gender hierarchies and intersecting forms of oppression. This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to apply participatory communication techniques to engage with diverse and complex community needs, empower participants through dialogue, and encourage sustainable change.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify key issues relating to gender, communication, and social change from the perspectives of gender, cultural and communication studies.
- Discuss and contextualise the gendered dimensions of a range of historical and emerging political, social, and cultural movements.
- Apply theories of participatory communication to address challenges in local and global communication contexts.
- Critically reflect on the capacity of participatory communication to disrupt traditional gender hierarchies and intersecting forms of oppression.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Individual Case Study, 25%, CLO1, CLO2 and CLO4
Assessment Task 2: Team Project for Social Change, 35%, CLO1, CLO2, CLO3 and CLO4
Assessment Task 3: Final Reflective Essay, 40%, CLO1, CLO2 and CLO4
