To get the most out this learning experience, students should have successfully completed a minimum of 96 credit points prior to enrolling in this course.
Course Description
This is an intensive course that focuses on developing your knowledge of communication practices within local, national or global contexts. The experiences in this course will enable you to explore the nature of communication practices and organisations within these diverse contexts.
In this course you participate in a study tour where you will visit a region to provide your firsthand insight into communication practices by visiting different organisations operating within a range of sectors. This will allow you to contextualise your experience of communication organisations and practices while broadening your perspectives of the industry. This will help to inform your future career and study options.
All participants in the study tour must enrol in this course.
Please note that course enrolment fees do not include tour costs. Refer to the Course Coordinator for details of your preferred tour including itinerary; travel and accommodation costs; tour costs and deadlines.
Prior to the departure of each tour there will be a series of preparatory meetings and administrative tasks. Your full participation is expected in these activities.

Program Learning Outcomes
In this course you will develop the following Bachelor of Professional Communication (BP354) program learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically compare and contrast communication practices from different contexts
- Explain the similarities and differences of communication practices in different contexts
- Identify and discuss the theories and practice that underpin intercultural communication.
- Identify and apply contextually relevant concepts and themes to professional communication solutions.
- Critically reflect on the process and outcomes of professional communication across different contexts.
Overview of Learning Activities
The study tour is delivered through a mix of activities: pre-departure workshops, the study tour intensive, and other activities relevant to the theme and destination of the study tour.
You will be guided in your learning through various face-to-face and online activities. These may include readings, seminars, workshops, site visits, workshops with industry representatives and academics.
You will work with your peers in groups as well as undertake your own independent learning

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment consists of:
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Presentation: Communication in context (Individual), 30% weighting [linked CLOs; 1, 2 ,3 & 5]
Assessment Task 2: Professional Communication Project (Group) 30% weighting [linked CLOs; 3, 4 & 5]
Assessment Task 3: Journal (Individual), 40% weighting. [linked CLOs; 2 ,3 & 5]
