Course Description
This course provides you with an opportunity to develop and consolidate research skills that inform evidence based physiotherapy practice and innovation. You will engage with research frameworks to critically appraise the literature and explore the processes involved in formulating research; design and development of appropriate methodology and sampling procedures to investigate and address research question(s). This course will examine research approaches, ethics, scientific writing and methods of research dissemination.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course contributes to the program learning outcomes for MC287 Master of Physiotherapy:
- PLO3: Evaluate and apply innovations in digital health and technology to support, advocate and advance physiotherapy practice.
- PLO5: Apply advanced research skills to critically appraise literature; interpret, analyse and synthesis findings for innovation and translation in physiotherapy practice.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Develop and apply a literature search strategy for a broad research question relevant to Physiotherapy utilising contemporary digital health and technology platforms
- Apply critical thinking to appraise, evaluate and synthesise literature that informs Physiotherapy clinical practice
- Evaluate the quality of research using contemporary digital frameworks and appraisal tools
- Explore different research methodologies including those that inform scientific enquiry to advance physiotherapy practice and health policy
- Explore ethical considerations, scientific writing and methods of research dissemination
Overview of Learning Activities
You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectorials, tutorials, practicals, laboratories, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.
You are encouraged to be proactive and self-directed in your learning, asking questions of your lecturer and/or peers and seeking out information as required, especially from the numerous sources available through the RMIT library, and through links and material specific to this course that is available through myRMIT Studies Course.
