Course Description

On completion of this course, you will be able to demonstrate understanding of the methods and strategies that promote the uptake of research findings into practice. You will learn to identify areas of research and/or learning in the clinical context, and identify and critique research data. You will learn how to analyse methods of promoting research and other evidence-based practises into your division of practice, improving the quality and effectiveness of health care. You will learn to find, critically appraise, interpret, and apply evidence-based practice to inform your clinical reasoning and professional decision making and development.

PLO2 Apply evidence-based knowledge to innovate and deliver safe and effective Radiation Therapy practice in a variety of contexts, using advances in both technology and determinants of health. 

PLO3 Investigate and propose solutions through sound clinical reasoning for all aspects of interprofessional Radiation Therapy practice while, complying with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Discuss advancing research skills, and identifying opportunities to contribute to the knowledge base of medical radiations.
  2. Utilise literature review  skills and u and evidence-based practice to inform your professional development and clinical decision making in practice.
  3. Apply evidence-based practice to identify personal learning needs and knowledge/skill gaps, and source evidence-informed information to improve patient and community outcomes in health.
  4. Examine the methods and strategies that promote the uptake of research findings into practice


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectorials, tutorials, practicals, individual and group activities. These will be complemented by self-directed online learning activities Attendance at tutorials is essential for demonstrating professional collaboration, communication and the ability to support interprofessional development.

You are encouraged to be proactive and self-directed in your learning, asking questions of your lecturer and/or peers and seeking out information as required, especially from the numerous sources available through the RMIT library, and through links and material specific to this course that is available through myRMIT Studies Course.


Overview of Learning Resources

Relevant textbooks are available in the RMIT library and will be referred to in teaching materials. Pre- and post-class activities will be provided in electronic format on the Canvas site, along with other RMIT training modules, introducing you to research concepts.
