Course Description
This course offers an advanced understanding of sustainability (social and environmental) accounting, reporting and assurance. It also addresses business risk management for sustainability, environmental policies and legislation as well as carbon markets, resource markets and sustainability technologies for business (and their impacts on sustainability).
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1: Apply appropriate technologies and effectively communicate orally and in writing insights gained from analysis of sustainability accounting issues.
CLO2: Interpret and compare internationally utilised sustainability reporting frameworks, standards, sustainability assurance processes and their applications individually and in teams.
CLO3: Analyse and evaluate business risk management and decision making in the context of sustainability, via evaluating real life situations.
CLO4: Critique limitations of business applications of legislation and policies; also, by analysing legal cases.
CLO5: Evaluate the concepts of carbon and resource markets, specifically in the business context
Overview of Learning Activities
In this course you will be encouraged to undertake authentic learning. Your authentic learning will be supported through various learning activities. These may include assignments; prescribed readings; researching and complex (critical) analysis; written work and collaboration with peers.
Learning activities will take place during class (guided learning activities) and outside class (independent learning activities).
After attending the workshops, it is recommended that you further your knowledge and notes by engaging with the recommended readings and other relevant materials. In addition, there will be independent learning in preparation for the specific assessment tasks.
Canvas will be your one-stop gateway to all your learning in this course. Make sure you explore and use all the resources and keep up to date with any announcements. Also, you will be expected to monitor email and Canvas for course-specific announcements.
