Course Description

The futures of health and healthcare are digital. Changes in societal attitudes to health, wellbeing and engagement with health services are converging with exponential increases in health-related data and the sophistication and ubiquity of technologies that can be used to improve both health outcomes and patient and consumer experiences. In Digital Health Enablers and Technologies you will examine the health, societal and technological megatrends that are propelling digital health and analyse the nature and implications of digital disruption and transformation in the health sector. You will appraise barriers to, risks for and enablers of better health as societies and economies increasingly function digitally. Topics will include appraising developments internationally and, in both health, and other industries, critiquing the opportunities and challenges associated with the application of emerging digital technologies to health, and assessing their potential impacts of digital technologies on health business and service delivery models and patient, consumer and citizen experiences.

Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectorials, tutorials, practicals, laboratories, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

This course uses highly structured learning activities to guide your learning process and prepare you for your assessments. The activities are a combination of individual, peer-supported and facilitator-guided activities, and where possible project-led, with opportunities for feedback throughout.

Authentic and industry-relevant learning is critical to this course and you will be encouraged to critically evaluate what is happening in your industry and reflect on your experience to provide further insights.

Social learning is another important component and you are expected to participate in class and group activities, share drafts of work and resources and give and receive peer feedback. You will be expected to work efficiently and effectively with others to achieve outcomes greater than those that you might have achieved alone.

The learning activities will enable you to understand the course learning resources and apply that learning to improve your own practice, for example by producing real-world artefacts and engaging in scenarios and case studies.

You are encouraged to be proactive and self-directed in your learning, asking questions of your lecturer and/or peers and seeking out information as required, especially from the numerous sources available through the RMIT library, and through links and material specific to this course that is available through myRMIT Studies Course
