Mr Paul Ritchard
Paul Ritchard lectures in film production and is a member of the nonfiction lab at RMIT University. His research focuses on film/media production as well as its intersections with teaching practice. He is the co-author of a number of ERA-recognised creative outputs and academic publications. His PhD is titled THE RIVER PROJECT A Poetics of Eco-Critical Film-Making.
Paul is producing a series of films located around the Snowy River that are investigating place and the poetics of rivers. He is looking at sustainable production, eco-cinema, environmental and landscape cinema and how the environment affects the methods of production and the made film.
He co-directed a 50min film on the making of RMIT’s landmark Design Hub building.
He collaborated with four other academics on ‘Motel’, a practice-based research project.

Paul Ritchard lectures in film production in the Bachelor of Communications (Media) and the Masters of Media. He manages selections and careers and film and tv production for both programs.
Paul has been an active member of the Committee of Management of Grit Media - a non profit organisation that brings awareness of disability into peoples' homes through production of realistic, compelling and engaging content, encouraging audiences to see disability as a natural part of life.
He has been an invited judge at the Human Rights Film Festival (Melbourne).
He has been a participant, and has presented, at ASPERA (Australian Screen Producers Education Research Australia) national conferences since 2005.

Specialising in Black & White Photography and Printing
After graduating from RMIT (Bachelor of Media Studies) in 1995, Paul worked as a freelance editor and camera operator while running his own production company ‘No Name Films’ which produced over 120 films, music clips, corporate videos and promos.
He has made 15 short films; two of which have been festival finalists (Cinema Sprints, White Glove and St Kilda Film Festival). His feature film work includes Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions where he was involved in the setting up and programming screen graphics.
Paul is also a musician and has played in many bands including Crow, Mississippi Barry and Odette, at prominent Australian venues during the last twenty years. Highlights include: touring with the Dirty Three and playing with The Cruel Sea, Augie March, Beasts of Bourbon, Kim Salmon, Tex, Don and Charlie, Ed Keupper, Roland S Howard, Wet Taxis, R.L. Burnside, Ben Harper, G Love and Special Sauce, Lemonheads, You am I, Louis Tillet, Charlie Owen, Richard Buckner, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Bob Log III, Silver Ray and many others.
Playing venues such as the Palace, Prince of Wales, The Forum, The Regent, The Hi-Fi Bar, Punters Club, The Tote and The Metro (Sydney). Also, recorded ‘Live at the Wireless’ on JJJ, played at Meredith Music
Festival and Byron Bay Blues Festival, produced a soundtrack for a SBS documentary ‘Growing Old Disgracefully’ and released Ten CD's.
