Prof Yang teaches and conducts academic research in mechanical engineering and automotive engineering programs. His main research interests include advanced composite structures, nanocomposites, structural stability and dynamics, smart structures and control, and nano/micro-mechanics. He is an author of over 300 papers including 249 international journal papers and over 90 conferences papers. He is the Highly Cited Researcher (Cross Field) in 2019 and 2020 by Clarivate Analytics and named Global Field Leader in Mechanical Engineering in 2020, Australia’s Research Field Leader in Mechanical Engineering in 2019 and 2020, both by Australian Research Magazine.
Prof Yang is the Editor-in-Chief of Engineering Structures, Associate Editor of Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, the editorial board member of Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, Thin-Walled Structures, International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, Scientific Reports, Materials, and Shock and Vibration.
Prof Jie Yang undertakes interdisciplinary research spanning across a broad range of areas in mechanical, aerospace, civil, and automotive engineering disciplines with a particular focus on the design, analysis, modelling and fabrication of lightweight and smart materials and structures made of advanced composites and carbon nanotubes or graphene reinforced materials at macro-, micro- and nano-scales.
