ZOE HILLE SPEAKS: ...and my course is Bachelor of Applied Science Surveying.
VISUAL: Zoe Hille’s surveying homework papers and computer work.
ZOE HILLE SPEAKS: I chose the course because I’d done some research and so many things I felt suited me. I like math. It just, like, fitted my personality. I received the Women in Geospatial Science Scholarship, which was given by Geomatic Technologies.

MARIE SLAKO SPEAKS: The reason I set up the scholarship is because I wanted to see more young women come through in this industry because it’s such a rewarding industry and has been very good to me and my career.

MARIE SLAKO SPEAKS: The recipient receives $8,000 a year for the length of their studies, which is a four year degree, and also the opportunity to do the work experience component of their course with Geomatic Technologies.

ZOE HILLE SPEAKS: I’ve done a week of that and that was good. I worked with my buddy and mentor, and then I caught up with them for coffee a few times. They keep me updated with what work is going on within their business and how I’m going with uni. The money has helped because I do play sport and I do do full time uni, so I have the financial pressure taken off and then I have more time to study.
VISUAL: Claire Davies walks down Bowen Street. Claire Davies is being interviewed at the City Campus. She sits looking toward the camera.
VOICEOVER: When I met up with Zoe I can see that it’s had such a positive impact on her.

TEXT ON SCREEN: Claire Davies, Product Owner, Geomatic Technologies.
CLAIRE DAVIES SPEAKS: She has so many commitments outside of university that are happening, but this scholarship has allowed her to focus on her studies and her passions, and I think it’s really engaged her passion for the industry and given her her great exposure to the work that she could be doing in the future. Having that link to industry is beneficial in both directions. I think it’s also important for our industry to have a link back to RMIT and to the kind of things they’re teaching there so that we’re all current and we’re all keeping up. I would encourage other companies to create a scholarship, especially if they have an area they’re passionate about, say in the diversity space. I think it really shows a strong message that you’re not just talking about diversity that you’re taking action and you really are encouraging diversity.

This scholarship is awarded to female students studying a Bachelor of Engineering program and provides $5,000 each year for up to four years.
Niamh is a recipient of the STEM Women in Engineering scholarship and is studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Infrastructure) which is a great mix of architecture and maths. She wants to know what is underneath structures instead of just the aesthetics. Niamh is aiming to work in geotechnical engineering to focus on the structures below-ground that support things like our public transport.
Vanessa is a licensed pilot and is studying a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering. She loves the feeling of an aircraft taking off. Her STEM scholarship has allowed her to volunteer to help other RMIT students with their study and to mentoring high school students in regional Victoria.
Alyssa is in her third year of a Bachelor in Mechatronics Engineering. She is amazed by the rapid advancement of 3D printing technology and she's excited by the possibilities through automation. Alyssa's STEM scholarship allows her to focus on uni and taekwondo instead of working lots of casual jobs.
Kate is studying Geospatial Science in her Bachelor of Science (Hons). In school, Kate loved geography and learnt about Geospatial Science at RMIT Open Day. She loves how cartography is creative. Kate is a recipient of the Mondo Women in Geospatial Sciences Scholarship and is doing an internship where she works with fantastic role models.
