The Library pays other libraries for items received with the expenditure deducted from the Library budget.
Occasionally items are expensive to obtain and we will ask you to contribute to the cost. We will only proceed after receiving advice from you.
Turnaround time depends on a variety of factors including accuracy of details provided, the supplier availability and the time spent in transit.
Interlibrary loans and postal loans are not available to students and staff residing overseas (offshore).
The Australian Copyright Act governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.
The Act states that copied materials are to be used for research or study and no other purpose and that the amount copied is in accordance with the copying limits laid down in the Act.
These fair dealing limits are as follows:
Please note: more than a “reasonable portion” may be copied if the material is not available within a reasonable time at an ordinary commercial price.
This service is for RMIT University students in Australia, including RMIT Online students, who reside outside Met Zone 2, or in states other than Victoria.
Copies of journal articles, conference papers and book chapters will be delivered electronically to your desktop. Log in to LibrarySearch and select the Document Delivery link in the top menu to make a request.
If you need books, we will post them to you for free. We will also send you a prepaid satchel with the Library’s address. Please use this satchel to return your books to the Library.
Alternatively, you can pick up and return books in person from the Library site specified on your request.
We aim for a one-week turnaround time for all loans; however this may not always be possible.
The initial loan period for remote students is 4 weeks, and then normal loan periods apply. Renewals are automatic and we will let you know if your loans can no longer be renewed and must be returned.
Please remember that it is your responsibility to return materials by the due date. Penalties apply for overdue or lost items.
If you have any problems returning items on time, please contact Document Delivery Services.
