New online directory gives alumni businesses global reach

A new online directory is giving RMIT’s alumni business owners a platform to promote their products and services to a global community of over 500,000 people.

The directory connects participating businesses with the University’s international community of staff and alumni through a free listing on the RMIT website.

July, official luggage partner of the Australian Olympic team, and RIPE Cheese, the only purely Australian cheese business in the world, are among the more than 300 businesses to have signed up so far.

Founder of Ripe Cheese Hakim Halim graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and after a few years decided to follow his love of cheese, opening his store at Melbourne’s iconic Queen Victoria Market.

He said the directory was a fantastic opportunity to leverage RMIT's international reach.

"The Alumni Business Directory has allowed me to not only join a global community with shared experiences, but to promote RIPE Cheese to the RMIT community,” Halim said.

“My products are reaching hundreds of thousands of people around the world."

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Design and Social Context Professor Tim Marshall said the Alumni Business Directory was the latest in a series of initiatives designed to foster connection among the alumni community, along with chapters in six global regions, annual events, a mentorship program and dedicated social media channels.

"The directory gives our alumni the opportunity to list their products and services, showcase their businesses and support and connect with fellow alumni across a variety of industries and across RMIT’s global community for free,” he said.

“From health services, to food, to design, architecture, fashion and beauty – it’s an impressive array of business ventures that highlights the diversity and successes of our talented alumni.”

If you're an alumni business owner, complete this form to join the directory.
