New partnership with global infrastructure giant ACCIONA to advance sustainability

RMIT and ACCIONA have signed a partnership agreement to drive innovation and build skills for a sustainable future.

Aligned in their commitment to sustainability, regenerative futures and making a positive contribution to society and the environment, the multi-faceted partnership between the two organisations will deliver student experiences, workforce skills development, and research projects to transform and innovate.

Vice-Chancellor & President, Professor Alec Cameron, and CEO ACCIONA Australia and New Zealand, Bede Noonan formalised the partnership, paving the way for the progression of initiatives including knowledge transfer, capstone and research projects, and graduate placements and internships.

Speaking at the event, Cameron said RMIT was known for producing practical and pragmatic graduates, who stand out for their readiness to contribute because of their interactive and experiential education.

“We achieve this by bringing academia and industry together to generate positive impact through education, innovation and research,” he said.

“The value that this partnership will deliver for RMIT students is immense. What’s more, their opportunity will directly benefit broader society.”

Noonan reiterated the importance of collaboration as ACCIONA, a global company with a significant Australian business, works every day to deliver on its purpose to challenge the present to make the future possible.

“We want to lead the transition towards a low carbon economy and leave a positive impact on society by empowering our people to be innovative and to find better, smarter, more sustainable solutions,” Noonan said.

The official signing comes one year after leaders of the two global institutions – ACCIONA Chairman and CEO, José Manuel Entrecanales, and Cameron – signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration in Madrid, Spain.
