Applications open for 2025 creative residency in Austria

RMIT Culture is pleased to announce an open call to creative practitioners in the disciplines of art, writing, animation, design and sound/experimental music, to participate in a 2025 artist residency in Krems, Austria.

This reciprocal residency is generously supported by AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich, an international artist studio residency program located in the 12th century township of Krems at the junction of the Danube and Krems rivers. Krems lies 88.5km northwest of Vienna in the Wachau region of lower Austria. AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich was founded in 2000 by the federal state of Lower Austria to foster international cultural exchange in the region.

The 2025 residency runs from Monday 22 September to Monday 27 October 2025. Candidates should ensure their availability for the entirety of this period, as these residency dates are fixed.

AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich provides the following support to the successful applicant:

  • A studio apartment that is suitable for individuals and small families. Studios are equipped with a fully furnished kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, linen and towels. Further, the studios receive a weekly cleaning service;
  • A scholarship of €1950 (excluding insurance, freight, materials and transportation expenses);
  • Personal support for the duration of the residency;
  • Curatorial support by curators of AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich; and
  • Access to a common area with some tools and office facilities (computer, wireless internet and printer).
