RMIT Australian Screen Research Collection announces 2024/25 Fellow

RMIT Australian Screen Research Collection (RMIT ASRC) and RMIT Culture are delighted to announce Dr. Alicia Byrnes from the University of Melbourne as the recipient of the 2024-25 Fellowship.

Dr. Byrnes, a Lecturer in Screen Studies, has been awarded the Fellowship for her project, In Process: Women's Film Activities in Australia. Her research will examine women's film work in Australia from 1970 to 1990, spotlighting pivotal collectives like the Sydney Women's Film Group and the Women's Film Fund, which worked to foster greater gender equity across the Australian film industry.

Collection Coordinator for the RMIT ASRC, Olympia Barron, says, "I'm truly excited about research—not just for the output and results, but for the inherent creativity found within the research process itself. I am thrilled for Alicia and believe her project examining women's film work in Australia from the 70s to the 90s is both thrilling and significant. I'm eager to see what she discovers!"

The annual RMIT ASRC Fellowship provides researchers access to the collection's expansive archival holdings, encouraging projects that enrich the collection's use and spark critical engagement with archival representation. As a major resource for Australian film and television scholarship, the RMIT ASRC offers a broad array of research materials, including screenplays, production stills, press kits, soundtracks and special collections related to Australian film and television. These unique resources are supplemented by comprehensive book, journal and industry publication holdings from Australia and beyond.

Congratulations to Dr. Byrnes and all shortlisted candidates for this esteemed recognition.
